Target Zones and Points
An archery target face has 10 concentric scoring zones, from 1 (outermost) to 10 (innermost). The colors from outside to inside are:
- White: Zones 1-2
- Black: Zones 3-4
- Blue: Zones 5-6
- Red: Zones 7-8
- Gold: Zones 9-10
The X-Ring
Inside the 10-ring is the X-ring (inner 10). It scores the same 10 points in standard rules, but serves as a tiebreaker — the archer with more X's wins. Under WA 2025 experimental rules, the X-ring may score 11 points.
The 720 Round Format
The standard WA outdoor qualification round:
- 72 arrows total
- Shot in 12 ends of 6 arrows
- Maximum possible score: 720 (72 x 10)
- Recurve: Shot at 70 meters on a 122cm target face
- Compound: Shot at 50 meters on an 80cm target face (inner 10 ring only)
Time Limits
- 4 minutes for an end of 6 arrows
- 2 minutes for an end of 3 arrows (elimination rounds)
Scoring an Arrow
An arrow scores the highest zone it touches. If an arrow touches the line between two zones, it scores the higher value. Arrows that miss the target entirely score M (0 points).
